Scotland’s Shame – Falling for the Charm

Labour U Turn Central

A week is a long time in politics and so much can happen.  People are busy with their day to day lives and activities.  Work tasks here, performance reviews and so on etc.  With all this in mind you can understand why so many people do not get involved with day to day politics and only when there is an election.  Letters and leaflets are sent through the door, party visits to local’s doorsteps and all the other tools that are used to try and get their message across. This is crucial for Labour to get their false promises across to fool the public once again and they are winning up and down the UK.

When public sector strikes hit Britain in the summer of 2022, Starmer ordered his shadow ministers not to appear alongside workers on picket lines.  Labour the party of trade unions ordered this and people accept this?  What is Starmer agenda if he is now turning against trade unions? The Labour leader sacked Sam Tarry who is a left-wing MP and was his shadow rail minister for appearing with striking rail workers. Starmer’s team claimed Tarry was sacked for making up party policy in a TV interview. All of that came despite Starmer promising that his Labour Party would “work shoulder to shoulder with trade unions to stand up for working people”.  That does not sound like standing shoulder to shoulder with working people yet so many of these working people will continue to vote for Starmer in this general election knowing that their workers’ rights are being modified or even taken away.

Even on Labours website they state that trade unionists have been at the heart of their party and by working together they have changed Britain for the better from the NHS to the welfare state.  This is true with old Labour; however since New Labour under Blair and others, Labour is a shadow of itself.  The powers that be know this within Labour and as they have moved Labour over to Tory territory. There will always be elder traditional Labour voters who will always vote Labour no matter what and Labour know this.

Within our beloved NHS Starmer said he would “end outsourcing” when he ran for leader.
But, in an interview in the summer of 2022, he said the party will “continue with” some level of private provision in the health service in England. Since then, his health spokesperson has offered to hold the door “wide open” for the private sector.  How is this any different from what the Tories are currently doing?  Again why is this okay for Labour to do and not the Tories?  Can there be any implications for the rest of the UK in the near future? Why are the public quiet on this or is it wait and see what happens when it is their turn to attend hospital if at all etc.?

Education is crucial for any society to flourish and prosper and under an SNP government Scotland has been lucky to have free education, however this is under threat and in the near future under Scottish Labour if elected.  It has been rumoured that Anas Sarwar and Jackie Bailie would like to see the introduction of the Graduation endowment fees in Scotland. Scottish Labour/Lib-dem administration when in Government of the Scottish parliament introduced the graduation endowment fee of £2000.  If introduced again under Scottish Labour it would be a lot higher due to inflation.  Alex Salmond when first minister so rightfully scrapped this under his government and gave thousands of Scottish students the opportunity to better their lives.

Labour vowed to invest £28bn a year in climate-related measures to protect the UK from disaster, however Labour delayed plans for a green prosperity fund to start in the first year of government, saying it would be introduced by the middle of a first parliament.  What excuse will be used when it’s the middle of parliament and it has not yet been introduced?  Vote for us and we will introduce this if re-elected?

The launch of a Great British Energy, a publicly owned energy run on clean UK power was announced at the last Labour conference. Starmer has now said this will not happen.  If this was Humza Yousaf the outcry would be deafening here in Scotland, however as it is at UK level many here in Scotland accept it and would appear to be happy to pay more for their energy.  This power is a reserved matter.

A pattern should be emerging here and this is just the tip of the iceberg.  The problem we face in modern politics is that Labour, which was a working person party is not that now and as George Galloway said in his recent bi election victory speech that ‘Labour and Tory are two cheeks of the same bottom’.   Why do people in Scotland always fall for Labours charm?  We just need to look at Inverclyde Labour/Tory council and the increased council tax proposals, even though it is in one of the most deprived areas in Scotland.  This will affect so many lives and Labour as usual is gambling with our most vulnerable in society yet they are still willing to vote for them.  Other Labour U turns have been on green prosperity plan, common ownership, raising income tax for the highest earners, defending migrants’ rights, tech companies tax raid, end universal credit, rosebank oil and gas field and much more.

This is our time, our moment, lets seize it with both hands, once said by Mr Salmond.  There will be challenges ahead for the Yes movement but nothing is ever plain sailing.  Labour has had nothing positive to say about our country or offers no substance.  Policy should always be placed in Scottish hands for the Scottish people and not the branch office of Anas Sarwar who serves only Westminster agenda, after all as Starmer said recently in an interview, ‘Sarwar will do what he is told’.  If a lot of the Scottish people like so many times in our past vote for Labour, get betrayed again by Labour, scratch their heads and look silly then we really can’t fix stupid and deserve what Starmer has in store for Scotland.  We have to have confidence in ourselves and our bonnie country.  Please make the right choice.
