The Fog of a Unionist

Politics today has changed from what our elder generation have experienced in the past.  Modern politics has shown that our democratically elected MP’s are restricted in what they can say, do and vote for.  We just have to look at the atrocities happening within Gaza, leaving the EU etc.  Scotland has always been the country within the UK to speak reason within many areas, however always talked down by the right wing media and ignored time after time by Westminster.  This is dangerous as people begin to accept this and see it as “what’s the point” challenging the corruption of Westminster and the press that are biased.

Here in bonnie Scotland we have so many people that are proud of Scotland achievements present and in our rich past, but Scotland is divided in the path of its future.  Scotland is now out of Europe’s care and protection and we can see how we have been treated by Westminster; however our neighbours in Northern Ireland can continue to have special deals with Europe but Scotland as usual always has to sit down and accept what big brother tells her.  One of our biggest issues within Scotland is the oldest trick in the book that is used by Westminster.  Divide and conquer.  This has been used across the world by the British Empire when it had real power throughout the world back in the day.  Alas the Empire today has weakened significantly.

I mentioned divide and conquer and one tactic used within this, which many of our fellow Scots suffer from is indoctrination.  The definition is to teach (someone) to fully accept the ideas, opinions and beliefs of a particular group and not to consider other ideas, opinions, and beliefs.  Sadly this is evident throughout Scotland.  When you debate with a Unionist here about Scottish independence, you can clearly see who suffers from indoctrination (the fog) and who can actually critically think of the pros and cons. We sadly suffer in every community because of this.  These people accept all what happens down south and take offence to the Scottish Parliament when challenges occur.

Why are these unionists quiet when Westminster commits wrongs?  The Tories have shown total mismanagement and sleaze within power.   In July 2022, one of Boris Johnson's closest allies, Chris Pincher, resigned as deputy chief whip and was later suspended as a Conservative MP after allegations that he groped two men at a private members' club.  In April 2022, the Conservative Party launched a formal investigation after reports an MP watched porn on his mobile phone while sitting in the Commons chamber. A group of around 12 female Tory MPs, including former PM Theresa May, made the formal complaint to chief whip Chris Heaton-Harris.  Can you imagine the media frenzy if this was an SNP MP/MSP?  Douglas Ross would be shouting and demanding resignations.

When David Cameron left office in 2016, he began working as an adviser at Greensill Capital - a firm that specialised in supply-chain finances. Cameron was offered a share in the company that was said to be worth tens of millions of pounds. In 2020, Cameron lobbied the UK Government on behalf of the company to join a scheme called Covid corporate financing facility (CCFF). It is said that he sent multiple texts to the chancellor at the time, Rishi Sunak, as well as informally calling two other Treasury ministers.  Cameron was accused of exploiting private contracts with former government colleagues for his own benefit. A report in July 2021 by the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee.  Also according to a report by BBC Panorama, the former prime minister made about £3.3m from shares in the now collapsed Greensill Capital.  What would the Unionists reaction be if this was Alex Salmond?  Anas Sarwar would be joining others in condemning this sort of behaviour.

Reports suggest that Boris Johnson secured a £800,000 loan while in office thanks to the aid of former banker Richard Sharp in 2020. In late December, the Cabinet Office propriety and ethics team wrote a formal letter telling Johnson to stop seeking Sharp's advice about his personal finances as the appointment of a new BBC chair was set to take place. But by then, Johnson had already selected Sharp as his preferred candidate for the role.

David Warburton, MP for for Somerton and Frome, was suspended from the party after a series of allegations relating to sexual harassment and cocaine use. It was reported that two women made formal complaints to the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme about the former Conservative whip’s behaviour and that a third woman also made allegations about his conduct. A photo, published by The Sunday Times, also emerged of the MP allegedly sitting alongside lines of cocaine. In November, he failed to declare a £150,000 loan from a Russian-born businessman. Warburton has stood as an independent since he was suspended.  If this was an SNP MP then media would be going for the jugular.

These are some examples from the party that is in power of the UK.  Why are our fellow Unionist Scots quiet about this?  Why don’t they stand up against this mismanagement and unprofessionalism?  Very simple, its indoctrination.  It is drilled into their minds to accept what happens down south, don’t over question it but when things happen closer to home, its Scotland bad, the Scottish Parliament is ineffective then that’s acceptable.  Anything to ridicule the parliament and to undermine its authority. After all the Tories in Scotland believe that our Parliament should be closed.

The General election approaches and the Tories look to be losing power for the time being.  This is temporary as history has shown us that our neighbours down south always vote Tory and there has been more Tory PM’s than Labour PM’s.  The problem we face now in modern politics is that Labour, which was a working person party is not that now and as George Galloway said in his recent bi election victory speech that ‘Labour and Tory are two cheeks of the same bottom’.

Labour, before they have even gotten into power and handed the keys to Downing Street have made promises to the public and so many have been broken and u turned such as abolishing tuition fees, green prosperity plan, common ownership, raising income tax for the highest earners, defending migrants’ rights, tech companies tax raid, end universal credit, rosebank oil and gas field and much more to come in the coming months.  Scotland has so much potential and we can have a better future for ourselves and our children, however if we keep accepting the scraps from the table down south then the unicorn has truly been chained and tamed.
